DIY: Spring Easter Flower Basket

|

Hi there! It’s another beautiful Wednesday! The sun is shining, the birds are chirping and I am in the mood for decorating! I picked up a few items to make this craft and the rest I scavenged from around the house. I call it the Chicky, Chicky Basket. A little much? Ok, maybe just a nice flower basket for Spring or Easter.

All you need to make this is a basket, a plastic liner, coconut fiber liner, potting soil, moss, daffodils and some cute chicks

Garden stores have baskets that are already pre-lined. But I didn’t want to spend the money. Instead, I used a plastic painters drop cloth but you could use a big plastic trash bag as well. The reason for the liner is to keep water from leaking out of the basket when you water your Daffodils.

Now this step is optional. I already had a coconut fiber liner in my garage. I thought it would work nicely in the basket to keep all the soil from leaking out of the small weave holes. I also liked how it helps to hide the plastic liner. If you want to skip this step, go for it. 🙂

Then add a small layer of potting soil inside the basket and remove the Daffodils from their pot. I gently tugged them apart to space them throughout the basket.

Then I simply filled in the rest of the basket with extra soil. Next step was the moss…

I picked this up at Hobby Lobby. You basically place this on top, covering all the soil. It tears really easy which helps fit it in tight spaces around the flowers. Finally, place your chicks on top of the moss and water your flowers. Now you have a Chicky Chicky Basket beautiful flower basket centerpiece to enjoy!

I love the Daffodils. They add some nice Spring color to my kitchen table.

But my favorite part I think is the chicks. They are so stinkin’ cute!

My son noticed them last night at dinner and this is how that conversation went…

Sebastian: Hey Mom, are those little chicks?
Me: Yea.
Sebastian: Hmmm….can I play with them?
Me: No, sorry love. Mommy put those little chicks there for us to look at and enjoy.
Sebastian: Really? Why?

Men, they just don’t get the decorations. 🙂 That’s okay. But I have a feeling I will have to keep an eye on those chicks so little fingers don’t carry them away!

For fun, a view of my kitchen table with my Spring Vignette on the back wall.

I love my new little flower basket. It’s the perfect Spring craft that will carry over into Easter.

So have you started any Spring craft projects?
