Maintaining a clean home with two young boys can be challenging at times. But not when it comes to clean hardwood floors. Learn my easy three-step process!
I have no clue what it’s like to grow up in a house full of boys. The only ‘boy’ in our home was my father. Otherwise it was my mom, my two sisters and lovely me. Looking back, I’d say my sisters and I did a pretty good job helping my mom keep a clean home. We were all girly-girls. We always wanted to be dressed nice with pretty hair and never wanted to get too messy. And we were also the ones helping my mom clean with our daily chores. The three of us took turns doing the dishes, vacuuming and cleaning bathrooms. That’s got to help a ton right?!
Fast forward to my present life and now I’m the only girl in a house full of boys. And my two young boys are the complete opposite of how I grew up! They love to be outside playing, wrestling and digging in the yard. So when they finish and make their way back inside, they often bring in a big mess. Basically it’s a superb collection of twigs, crumbled leaves and dirt that gets dispersed all over my clean hardwood floors.
So to keep my floors clean, I had two options. One, never let the boys play outside again. Hmmmm, that would not make me parent of the year. Or two, get a quick and easy cleaning method. I know the first option is super realistic and doable but I optioned for the latter. It’s the only way my boys get to live a fun, happy childhood and I get clean, Instagram ready floors in a flash! 🙂
Now I bet you’re wondering, “What is your cleaning method? How do you always have clean hardwood floors?” So….let’s talk!
First off, I heart my wood floors because of their design and they’re fairly new. Chris and I installed them only a couple years ago. So obviously I want them to look their best for as long as possible. A quick run over with my stick vacuum, once a day, really does the trick for removing all the larger, dry particles that accumulate throughout the day.
But sometimes my hardwood floors get covered in more than just dirt. A juice cup spill here or drop of ketchup there requires a quick sweep with my Swiffer WetJet Wood. This gets my floors clean no matter what those boys have left behind. It’s an all-in-one system that’s so great for hardwood floors. It has a microfiber pad that’s really soft and sprays a very light mist that dries in half the time. So quick, right?! And that’s why I love it so.
Another fantastic plus of this Swiffer WetJet Wood is that it’s safe on all finished wood floors. I can reach for it any time of day and do a quick sweep through the entire kitchen and dining room. In just a few minutes, all the dirt and sticky grime I find gets absorbed and locked away into the pad. You want to know the really cool part? The Swiffer WetJet Wood leaves no streaks or haze. So that means daily cleaning is a breeze for me and those ‘deep cleaning’ days are simply now, a thing of the past. Yes!
No Shoes Required
The last thing we do to maintain clean hardwood floors requires the whole family’s participation. When we arrive home, we all immediately remove our shoes at the door. It’s something Chris and I started when we first got married. I trained the boys from an early age too. (Since they don’t help me clean, they can at least take off their shoes, right?! 😉 ) So without even thinking about it, it’s always the first thing they do when we arrive home. It’s such a simple step but it’s amazing how much less dirt is tracked throughout the home.
So that’s how this busy mom of two boys keeps her floors Instagram ready every day. And now…you can too! All the tools I mentioned — including the Swiffer WetJet Wood can be found on Amazon. And hey remember — no shoes required! 😉
