Why let the yard garden have all the fun? Create a pretty container tabletop herb garden that’s perfect for any place outdoors!
When I found this tabletop herb garden about a month ago, I instantly wanted to recreate it for our own backyard deck. So this past weekend, that’s exactly what I did. And I’m already loving the results! Once the herbs start growing, I hope to be enjoying this garden even more. 🙂
So today I’m going to show you how I selected my herbs and what really takes this tabletop herb garden to the next level!
And that’s not all! I have even more inspiration for you today. I’ve teamed up with Krista from The Happy Housie and many other fabulous bloggers to show you a ton of beautiful summer DIY’s! But before I show you those, let me share more about my new outdoor herb garden.
So when I was selecting plants for my herb garden, of course I wanted to pick herbs that my family loves. But the planter I was planning to use was not excessively large. So I decided to go with just two picks – basil and mint. And what’s the trick to really finishing the look in style? Flowers!
So here’s what you will need to create your own tabletop herb garden:
–favorite herbs (mint, basil, rosemary, thyme)
-sun annual flower of your choice (plumbago, petunias, snapdragon, geranium, lavender, and verbena are all great flowers to add)
My planter was a little deeper than I wanted so I cut a leftover plastic pot down to size to fit better. You can totally skip this step if your pot/planter isn’t as deep.
You may have noticed there are three herb plants pictured above. Well, we all love to eat fresh basil so I got two of those plants. And only one of the mint because I think we all know how ridiculously fast mint can grow! The main reason I even picked mint was for the cocktail recipes and there’s only two of us that will be drinking those. 😉
To balance out all the green from the herbs, I added an annual – white verbena. This is what takes an ordinary tabletop herb garden to a fabulous one. Yes, I could have added more herbs but I really love the addition of some fun flowers.
Although my herb garden looks a little sparse now, I’m hoping in a month or so it will fill in nicely!
Verbena loves to be in full sun, so they should thrive in my outdoor tabletop herb garden. At least I hope – I want it all to thrive! I’m already thinking about all the margarita pizzas and mint mojitos we will be enjoying this summer. 🙂
If you make a tabletop herb garden, I’d love to hear what combinations of herbs and flowers you use. So be sure to come back and comment later. And don’t forget to PIN this for later!
And now as promised, if you are looking for even more fun summer projects to try I have a bunch for you!
