The weather has finally warmed up and it’s time to move life outside. But first the backyard patio needs some spring cleaning. Learn my step by step process and discover the best patio cleaner for getting the job done right!
The summer season in Colorado is so beautiful! We love to spend most of the day outdoors enjoying every minute. Almost every night you will find us eating dinner on the backyard deck. Our back patio is basically were we live the whole season long. So when the warm weather finally arrives, I can’t wait to rush outside and get everything clean. Spring cleaning the patio is an easy task because I break it down into easy steps and I use a great patio cleaner to get the job done fast. So let’s talk about how I transform our dirty patio from bleak to let’s eat!
Before the cleaning could start we had to make a quick run to The Home Depot to get a few supplies. First stop was the cleaning isle to get the best patio cleaner for the job. Britton found it right away!
He grabbed a bottle of the Windex Outdoor Sprayer and dropped it into our cart before I could even blink! How do you know this mama is raising this boy right?!
Then we ventured around the store to buy a few accessories for decorating the patio. I’ll share more about that later. 🙂 Now that we have the tools, it’s time to clean!
Clear the Deck
The first step is to clear the deck of the dirt, grim and fallen Aspen tassels. I attached a water sprayer to our hose and sprayed the entire deck clean. Those seasonal tassels drive me nuts because they stick to your shoes and always get tracked into the house. I love washing those babies away!
Once the deck was clean and cleared of debris, the next step is the windows.
Clean the Windows
The combination of winter weather and my boys had left our windows really dirty. Can see all the black smears on the patio door? Not sure how those even happened but I’m almost positive a four year old might be the culprit. 😉
So to get the windows cleaned fast, I grabbed our garden hose and connected it the Windex Outdoor Sprayer bottle we bought earlier.
The bottle has a dial on top with three settings: clean, rinse and off.
I turned the water on and then switched the dial to rinse to start rinsing the patio door first.
Once the door was rinsed well I turned the dial over to clean. I sprayed the door on the clean setting for about a minute then I turned the Windex outdoor sprayer to off. I allowed the door to soak for about 15 seconds.
Then I returned the dial to rinse again and sprayed the door thoroughly. I then repeated the same steps with the other side of the patio door and exterior windows. It took me only about five minutes to clean all the windows on our patio. So nice!
It was so easy to clean the windows, that I couldn’t stop there. I moved around to the front of the house to a smaller window that is over our front doorway.
You may be thinking, wait! Is the Windex outdoor sprayer going to reach that window from just standing on the ground? Oh yes. It did!
I’ve been needing to clean that window for years. It was so nice to know that little task on the to-do list was finally done! The windows were now all clean but I’m not finished using my patio cleaner just yet.
Wash Patio Furniture
Our patio furniture was also covered in dirt and grim. No one wants to eat on that table, right?! So the third step was to clean the chairs and table.
That’s where the Windex outdoor sprayer helped me again. With just a few turns of that dial, my patio furniture was all clean once again! That’s why this patio cleaner is the best. It can clean windows, patio furniture, brick, siding, plastics, grills and more! I’m pretty sure that’s almost everything you would need to clean outside. 😉
And finally, the last step for me was to set up the deck for guests.
Reassemble the Space
The cushions are back, the water can centerpiece is full of spring lilac blooms and now all we need is the food!
To add a little more color to the deck, I placed two urns filled with a lavender patio tree and some verbena. I’m hoping these will help to keep the mosquitoes away from our family dinners on the deck. It seems that my boys are highly allergic and that zaps the fun out of being outdoors real fast.
The dining side of our deck is all ready to entertain. But the lounge side is still a work in progress. I have a few more pieces arriving next week and then I will show you the complete deck decor. So be on the lookout for that post soon!
I hope these tips and this patio cleaner will help you get your patio ready for guests in no time!
